The Ambassador of Romania to the Kingdom of Sweden and the Deputy Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Stockholm had the honour to request the pleasure of the company of Cawa Media at the Gala Opening of the photography exhibition “Brâncuși – The Path Towards Universality”

The exhibition is dedicated to the legacy of Constantin Brâncuși, a pioneering figure of modern art whose work profoundly shaped the language of sculpture and continues to inspire across cultures and generations. The presentation features photographs taken by the artist in his Paris studio, alongside rare archival footage documenting the creation of his works.

Curatorial Statement

This exhibition offers an exceptional cultural experience, conceived as a dialogue between memory, creation, and modernity. Bringing together archival documents, rare photographs, and film material, it presents a refined and in-depth interpretation of the artist who redefined the language of modern sculpture.

At its core are original documents and photographs (1937–1938) from the Sorana Georgescu-Gorjan Archive, capturing the creation of the Monumental Ensemble in Târgu Jiu. Visitors are invited to explore not only the finished form of these iconic works, but also the creative process behind them—offering a perspective rarely accessible to the public.

Special emphasis is placed on photographs taken by Brâncuși in his own studio, reflecting an artistic vision that anticipates contemporary visual culture and reveals a deep engagement with the image as an extension of the artwork itself. These works open a space for reflection on the relationship between form, light, and meaning.

The exhibition is further enriched by film screenings and documentary elements that contextualize Brâncuși’s oeuvre, alongside the presentation of the “Path of the Heroes” Ensemble—recently inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List—reaffirming the universal significance of his work.

Through this initiative, the Romanian embassy in Stockholm presents not only a tribute to Brâncuși, but also a reflection on the role of Romanian culture in shaping European modernism—a testament to a creative vision that gave form to essence and opened the path to universality.
