The International Women´s Club of Stockholm (IWC)
October Fundraising luncheon for Tyresö Women Shelter 10th of October, 2017 at Operaterassen in Stockholm, Sweden.
IWC Stockholm brings together expatriate women living in Stockholm. Our 350 members are truly international and represent over 60 nationalities. The Club has been administered by its members on an entirely voluntary basis since its inception in 1955. The Board consist of 11 members and an International Coordinator who arranges visits and exchanges with our sister clubs abroad. Swedish members who have returned to Stockholm after living abroad for a long period of time also play a role in the Club.
Through its activities, the Club provides opportunities to interact and share the cultures and interests of our members. IWC organizes activities that help expat members familiarize themselves with Stockholm and with Swedish culture.
The Club’s other major purpose is helping needy women and children, both internationally and locally. Every year the club organises three main charity events. The first is in October with a fashion show, the second is in December when the luncheon is often organized by an embassy and has a specific country’s Christmas traditions as the theme, and the third event is in March, close to International Women´s Day on March 8. The IWC´s charity events receive kind and generous support from the Swedish Royal family, embassies and many companies both Swedish and international.
IWC is purely a social club with the motto Friendship and Goodwill To All. It has no religious, political or commercial affiliations. IWC has created a peaceful and harmonious forum for its members and everyone who joins in our activities.
We were privileged to have Her Royal Highness Princess Lilian as patron of the Club from 1982 until her death in 2013. The (IWC) club was founded 55 years ago, in 1961.
