Belgrade’s long and storied history is known by its architecture, which varies from Byzantine and Ottoman to neoclassic and romantic buildings in the older neighborhoods, and from Art Nouveau to brutalism and neo-Byzantine design in New Belgrade and at the new Belgrade Waterfront. The city’s many theaters, museums, monuments and opera houses boast a deep and exciting cultural life while the beaches and rivers attract sunbathers, sports enthusiasts and partygoers on the popular floating river barges that serve as many nightclubs.

The airport of Belgrade is called Nikola Tesla and is located close from Belgrade City. You can reach the airport by the airport bus, regular bus and, of course by taxi.

The bus stop is at the big music fountain at the Slavija Square. There are very nice hotels of different standard, but we suggest you stay near the pedestrian street Knez Mihailova.

Knez Mihailova is the main pedestrian and shopping zone in Belgrade, and is protected by law as one of the oldest and most valuable landmarks of the city. Named after Mihailo Obrenović III, Prince of Serbia, it features a number of buildings and mansions built during the late 1870s. Here you will find everything from famous designer shops to small towns and also some art. Near the pedestrian street lies Trg Republika, The square is located less than 100 meters away from Terazije, designated center of Belgrade, to which it is connected by the streets of Kolarčeva (traffic) and Knez Mihailova (pedestrian zone). Many people consider Square of the Republic to be the center of the city. Through Vasina street it is connected to the fortress and park of Kalemegdan to the west and through Sremska street it is connected to the neighborhood of Zeleni Venac and further to Novi Beograd, which is a bit of Belgrade’s heart, where there are several attractions, including the National Theater, the National Museum and the Statue of Prince Michael. Near the Knez Mihailova lies the Zeleni Venac area where Belgrade’s oldest market is located.

A nice suggestion where to stay in the center of Belgrade, newly built hotel in 2016 and near Knez Mihailova is the City Savoy Hotel. A first-class hotel including a small SPA.

Check the magnificent Sava Bridge that is a cable-stayed bridge over the Sava river in Belgrade, Serbia. The bridge crosses the tip of Ada Ciganlija island, connecting the municipalities of Čukarica and New Belgrade. The bridge pylon is located on the tip of the island, which has been reinforced with large amounts of concrete and has been slightly enlarged to provide stronger foundations. Construction began in 2008, and the bridge opened on 1 January 2012.

To make an tour of Belgrade you must visit Ada and the Ada Lake, which is an artificial lake with lots of interesting water activities. There is a restaurant Ada Safari which offers fantastic food and home made Slivovitz 

Another nice area to visit is Zemun (New Belgrade), located along the Danube river. A lot of nice cobbled streets with nice restaurants, and bars where you can drink or eat lunch ore dinner. Suggested restaurant in this area is Saran.

Another recommended restaurant is  Sofa restaurant. in the interesting area of Beton Hall close to the Sava river.

Another great restaurant is Mala Fabrika Ukusa, located in Belgrade, serving large dishes of tasteful portions of Serbian food, so you can try out a lot of everything.

You see most of Belgrade by walking around, there are some guided tours of course for the lazy one. There is some interesting Museums of course, my favourite is The Museum of Yugoslavia is a national history museum in Serbia, located in the Dedinje district of Belgrade. The institution goes back to a centre that was established by Josip Broz Tito during his lifetime. Much like the presidentail libraries in the USA,  Tito’s memorial centre was intended as a repository for preserving and making available the papers, records, collections and other historical materials relating to his life and work and the history of Yugoslavia. After his death on 4 May 1980, Josip Broz Tito was buried in the House of Flowers, set in the museum grounds. The museum has a collection of more than 75.000 items that illustrate the history of Yugoslavia throughout the 20th century, with the special accent on the life and work of Tito himself.

Then there is the Tesla Museum, a very interesting museum for looking at technical things of the inventor Nikola Tesla.

Dont miss the Belgrade fortress, it’s a good place to view the Danube and Sava river flow through the city of Belgrade.

Please visit the Church of Saint Sava when you visit Belgrade. It was built for almost 100 years ago, and it is still far from finished. This is the largest orthodox church ever built in the world.
