The International Conference in Tashkent Marks 690th Anniversary of Amir Temur
An international scientific conference dedicated to the 690th anniversary of Amir Temur’s birth is taking place on April 9–11, 2026 at the Islamic Civilization Center in Tashkent. The event was initiated by the president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and brings together more than 300 scholars, diplomats, and experts from over 20 countries.
The conference focuses on the historical legacy of Amir Temur and the role of the Timurid era in world civilization, covering governance, diplomacy, architecture, science, and culture. International organizations such as ICESCO, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, and IRCICA are among the participants.
Cultural events, exhibitions, and academic sessions are part of the program, and memoranda of cooperation are expected to be signed at the closing ceremony.
The conference highlights Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen international scientific dialogue and promote its historical and cultural heritage globally.
The Center for Islamic Civilization (CIC) stands as Uzbekistan’s most comprehensive cultural, scientific, and educational complex. Conceived as a national hub for the study, preservation, and presentation of Islamic heritage, the Center brings together a wide spectrum of institutions and functions under one roof.
At its core, the CIC features a state‑of‑the‑art museum showcasing the rich intellectual, artistic, and spiritual legacy of Islamic civilization in Uzbekistan and beyond. Complementing the museum is a dedicated research institute that supports advanced academic work in history, theology, manuscript studies, archaeology, and cultural heritage.
The complex also includes extensive library collections, modern scientific laboratories, and collaborative spaces for international partner organizations, fostering global scholarly exchange. In addition, the CIC hosts centers for traditional crafts, where artisans preserve and transmit centuries‑old techniques, as well as educational departments that offer programs, lectures, and training for students, researchers, and the general public.
Together, these components make the Center for Islamic Civilization a dynamic environment where knowledge, culture, and innovation converge — a landmark institution shaping the understanding of Uzbekistan’s place within the broader Islamic world.
