Brazil celebrated 202 years of independence with parade on September 7, 2024

This year’s September 7 celebrations where organized around three key themes. One focuses on the strategic significance of Brazil hosting the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro this November. During the parade, the 21 flags of the G20 countries and regional blocs will be displayed. Brazil holds currently the presidency of the G20, a group of the world’s 19 largest economies, the European Union, and the African Union.

The parade also payed tribute to the efforts to support Rio Grande do Sul, with the participation of professionals who assisted during the floods that affected the state in May.

The third axis will emphasize the resumption of the broad protection of the population, especially children, through vaccination campaigns and the expansion of health care services, with the revival of the Mais Médicos (More Doctors) program.

The civic-military parade featured students from public schools in the Federal District, athletes who represented Brazil at the Paris Olympics 2024, and representatives of the Armed Forces. Highlights include performances by the Army Police Battalion’s Human Pyramid and the Smoke Squadron.

Brazil Independence Day

Brazil Independence Day, also known as “Dia da Independência” or “Sete de Setembro,” is celebrated annually on September 7th to commemorate Brazil’s declaration of independence from Portugal in 1822. The day is marked with parades, concerts, and cultural performances across the country. The Brazilian government holds an official parade on the Ministries Esplanade in the capital city of Brasilia, with the president leading the nation’s parade. The day is also celebrated worldwide, with Brazilian embassies, consulates, and missions organizing cultural and community activities. It is a time for Brazilians to reflect on the spirit of their nation with personal pride and celebrate Brazil’s abiding friendship with the United States.
